The Big Question #33: Why Co-Managers
This video explains Presilium's co-manager program, in which every client works with both a primary adviser and a co-manager who is also familiar with their family and financial plan. The structure is designed to protect continuity if a primary adviser is unexpectedly unavailable, and to build in a second set of eyes on planning decisions over the course of a long-term relationship.

Key takeaways
- Every client at Presilium has a primary adviser as their main point of contact, along with a co-manager who is also familiar with their plan.
- A co-manager can step in if a primary adviser is unexpectedly unavailable, without the client's experience starting from scratch.
- Having more than one adviser involved is intended to create checks and balances around planning decisions rather than relying on a single point of view.
- The program is designed to support continuity for clients over relationships that may span 30 years or more.
Hello everybody, and welcome to this month's edition of The Big Question. Over the past year, we introduced an important initiative here at Presilium, our co-manager program. Along with that rollout, we received a few very reasonable questions, questions that made sense, but I also felt deserved a bit more context. Questions like, "What's the purpose of the co-manager program? How should I think about who to reach out to and when? And how will my experience actually be different?" All leading ultimately to this month's big question: Why co-managers?
Why do we feel it is so important to utilize co-managers instead of the more traditional experience of one adviser, one person, one relationship, a single point of contact, and potentially a single point of failure? Now, at Presilium, we intentionally don't do it that way. And here's why. We're helping our clients build financial plans that are meant to last 30, 40 years or more. Over that kind of time frame, life changes, people change, circumstances change, and it's unrealistic to pretend that one person will always be available without interruption forever. And therefore, we don't think it's fair to allow your financial life, and the high-leverage decisions that come with it, both planned and unplanned, to hinge on the availability of any one individual.
That's where our co-manager structure comes in. Every client of Presilium has a primary adviser, that's your main point of contact, the person who knows you, your family, your goals, and your plan inside and out. But alongside that primary adviser is also a co-manager. The co-manager is not a stranger stepping in cold. They have intimate knowledge of who you are, your family, and your financial plan. Internally, they also work alongside your primary adviser to develop and refine your plan over time. They sit in on meetings and they help shape the strategies designed to best position you and your family for financial success. That way, if they need to step in, the conversation doesn't start from scratch. It continues seamlessly, as if your primary adviser were sitting in the room.
And this does two really important things. First, it protects you. If someone is unexpectedly out taking time away, or navigating a life event of their own, an unexpected health issue, for example, like jaw surgery, your experience doesn't suffer. And not just that, your experience doesn't even miss a beat. You're still cared for. You're still heard, and decisions don't get delayed or rushed. And secondly, it protects the quality of decision-making. Investing and planning involve judgment calls and trade-offs. Having multiple sets of eyes creates natural checks and balances. Decisions are reviewed, discussed, pressure-tested behind the scenes, not made in isolation. This is how great teams operate, not for speed, but for consistency and quality over time.
Importantly, this structure also allows our advisers to show up at their best. It gives our team the confidence to take time away when needed, knowing that their clients will still be well cared for, and then to step right back in without missing a beat. None of this is by accident. It's by design. Our goal with this program is not to introduce additional complexity to your financial life, but rather to maintain continuity, thoughtfulness, and an exceptional experience for you and your family, year after year. And when clients understand this structure, the reaction we hear most often is that it just makes sense. And I would tend to agree. In our experience, it leads to more productive conversations, better continuity, and a relationship that's truly built to last, an experience we feel is important for everyone to have when dealing with something so important. And that's the real value of co-managers. Thanks for joining me, everyone. Until next month.
