Is Your Peace of Mind Complete?

Brook Hart explores why financial security for yourself is often not enough for real peace of mind, since concern for aging parents, children, or other loved ones can remain. He explains how a short, high-level conversation with an advisor can bring clarity to family members who don't yet have a trusted resource of their own.

Key takeaways

  • Financial security typically brings peace of mind, but for many people that peace of mind is incomplete while loved ones remain unprepared.
  • Common lingering questions include who a family member would turn to for major financial decisions or who is looking out for them.
  • A high-level introductory conversation, rather than a full financial overhaul, is often enough to give a loved one clarity and defined next steps.
  • Presilium positions itself as a resource not only for clients but for the people who matter most to them.

Hello everyone and welcome to this month's edition of The Big Question, where we ask you to think about if your peace of mind is complete. Now, most people want to feel financially secure. It's usually the starting point. Security brings peace of mind that then allows you to make decisions with more confidence, and it removes a lot of unnecessary stress from your day-to-day life.

But for most, that peace of mind doesn't exist in isolation. For many of us, we have others in our lives who are incredibly important to us as well, whether it be children coming of age or aging parents or simply others in your life whom you care deeply about, and you know that your peace of mind is incomplete until they have peace of mind as well. And unfortunately, until you know that they're well cared for, the questions linger, leaving us unsettled. Questions like, who do they need to discuss major life decisions with, especially those decisions with a potentially sizeable financial impact? Or who in their life can they trust to keep them working down a path towards achieving their financial and life goals? The really big question, or simply, outside of you, who's there for them?

These aren't the questions most of us love to think about, but they matter and they need to be discussed. But what many of us also know is that having these conversations with those close to you aren't always the easiest, especially as it relates to your finances. And that's where the Presilium team comes in. Our role is to be a resource for our clients and for those important to them. After all, we're a team of CFPs prepared to talk through most any situation that impacts someone's financial life. To let that type of brain power, expertise, and competence go untapped would be a shame.

And we get it. Sometimes people are hesitant because they're respectful of our time or unsure if someone would or would not be a great fit, and so forth. But from our perspective, we couldn't feel more different. We believe it's always worth having the conversation. And it's not even that it needs to be the big conversation that we often make it out to be in our heads. More often than not, the most helpful type of conversation is a high-level, let's get the fundamentals squared away type of conversation. Let's get on the right path. And if it warrants, that relationship can certainly grow over time, but if it doesn't, that's okay, too. At a minimum, you know that in the 30 or 40 minutes that we spend together, they're going to walk away with a sense of relief, a sense of clarity, and well-defined next steps forward, which is perfect.

Personally, it's why I'm so grateful to do what I do. If I didn't, I've no idea where I'd start on my own finances. And even more unsettling, I have no idea who would be there to help my own family. And that feeling, that feeling of being unsettled, is the exact opposite of what we aim to deliver here at Presilium. We work each day to provide a more complete experience for you, for your family, and for those most important to you. And with it, complete peace of mind. Thanks for joining me, everyone. Until next month.
