What Happens If I Do X?

Life brings decisions that can change everything, from a new job offer to an early retirement. This Presilium video explains why the starting point for any big decision is reviewing your financial plan, treated as a living guide that is updated regularly rather than filed away, so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

Life brings decisions that can change everything, from a new job offer to an early retirement. This Presilium video explains why the starting point for any big decision is reviewing your financial plan, treated as a living guide that is updated regularly rather than filed away, so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

Key takeaways

  • Life-changing decisions, like a new job, a new home, or early retirement, should start with a review of your financial plan.
  • A financial plan works best as a living document that is revisited and updated regularly, not filed away once it is created.
  • A clear, updated plan provides the guidance and clarity needed to make informed decisions with confidence.
  • A financial plan is meant to be the starting point for every client relationship, investment decision, and asset allocation choice.

Hello and welcome to this month's edition of The Big Question. Throughout life, we consistently face decisions day after day, some bigger than others. Every so often, we face decisions with the ability to totally change the trajectory of our lives. A new job offer, a new home purchase, retirement. These decisions, the big ones, are the catalyst behind this month's big question. What happens if I do X? What happens if I take that new job? What happens if we buy the new house? What happens if I retire early?

The answer for us is always, let's review the financial plan. Because you see, here at Presilium, your financial plan is not some antiquated document chiseled out of stone, out of date, useless, and thrown in a drawer to collect dust the day it's created. It's a living, breathing document, something that is to be revisited and updated regularly. It's also one that we understand is an abstraction of reality, yes, and is likely to change in dramatic fashion the very next day as it is to stay the same.

But we also understand why it is so important in that moment in time. It provides guidance, it provides clarity, and it provides peace of mind. Without all the information laid out in a clear, digestible manner, how could you possibly expect to make the most informed decision?

That is why we feel so strongly about this as a starting point. As a starting point for all of our client relationships, as a starting point for all our investment and asset allocation decisions, as a starting point for all of our discussions.

And if you don't yet have a financial plan or don't yet have one that is regularly updated or recently updated, I can't stress the importance of this enough. Take action. Get an updated one in place. Provide yourself with that peace of mind to understand where you are, where you're going, and how best to get there. Thanks for joining me, everyone. Until next month.
